Does anyone know what TV sitcom this quote is referring to?
She says that she nearly made the biggest mistake of her career at age 13, when she got a major part on an American sitcom. "I was super-excited, but my parents said no. It's a good thing. I would have had to move to L.A., and I can't even imagine what I would be like now. I shudder to think."

i have no idea. i still think about it from time to time. well when she was 13 it was the year 2000 so maybe you can look up all the pilots that opened that year and maybe we can narrow it down that way....haha.

Ok, a quick search came up with these 2000 debuts:
Malcolm in the Middle
Girlfriends
Tucker
Yes, Dear
Gilmore Girls
Ed
Bette
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Boston Public
As Told By Ginger
I'm not a big TV watcher and some of these shows I've never heard of but my GF was a big Gilmore Girls fan so I did watch some of that.
Is it possible the EP was the first choice to play Rory?

Now I do, I never really watched it faithfully.Jinzaar wrote:You do realise that rory is at about 16 when the show started while Ellen was a young looking 13 year old.

I never watched any of the other shows listed so I'm not sure which ones had young teenage female characters.

I got the list from Wikipedia and took out the ones that were obviously not sitcoms. Not sure about the failed pilots though, I wonder if there is even a list of those.

It would have been great to see Ellen play April on "Gilmore Girls". That would have been a perfect role for her when she was 13, but she was probably too old to play that part by then.

But Gilmore Girls is definitely not a sitcom, so stop worrying about it. Angie might be on to something with Lizzie McGuire though.

I wonder if it was this Disney Channel show....which premiered in 2000. Was Ellen going to co-star w Shia LeBeouf? She would have been the perfect age for the role of Ren (played by Christy Carlson Romano...later voiced Kim Possible)

yea but Ren (in the show) is supposed to be older than shia's character....and if anything she would look younger than him, if not the same age (considering he looked quite pre-pubescent when he started that show).

Got it. Not too familiar with show....but I thought the characters were supposed to be around the same age.angie wrote:yea but Ren (in the show) is supposed to be older than shia's character....and if anything she would look younger than him, if not the same age (considering he looked quite pre-pubescent when he started that show).
